Volunteering

Would you like to learn new skills, meet new people and help the farm?

We offer a wide range of opportunities for individuals to get involved in the day to day life of the farm. Through volunteering you will gain new skills and work related experience, meet new friends, receive training and have lots of fun whilst helping the farm to develop and grow.

Find out about about people's experiences by reading our Volunteer Stories

The volunteering opportunities we offer are very flexible and include:

  • Animal Care - learn about and help with a wide range of animal care activities including looking after pigs, sheep, goats, ducks and chickens.
  • Site Maintenance - the farm is a seven acre site with buildings, animal housing, fences, gates and paths that need repairing, replacing and painting on a regular basis. So, if you would like to put your DIY skills to good use, or if you would like to learn some new ones, please contact us.
  • Gardening, Community Orchard and Woodland - there is plenty of work all year round including clearing, planting, maintaining, coppicing, propagation and growing flowers and vegetables.
  • Management Committee - sharing the responsibility for shaping and steering the farms work.

You don't have to limit yourself to doing one thing - many of those who volunteer at the farm like to do a bit of everything. There are always new and different volunteering opportunities coming up, so if you have a skill that you think might help us, or if there is something you would like to do at the farm, please let us know.

"I've recently got a paid job at the zoo... I also volunteer as a Presentation Keeper. I feel my experience at the farm helped me in achieving my positions at the zoo. I used the farm as a reference" Ellie, a former volunteer

Work Experience

We offer a limited number of work experience placements for people attending college courses.

For an informal discussion about what we can offer please contact the farm's Volunteer Coordinator, Ian on 0117 938 1128 or ian@lwfarm.org.uk
